Where to pick up the car
Just south of the city, 10 to 15 minutes from the centre. The car meets you at the terminal; tell us your flight number.
Cars and scooters are brought to your hotel or flat, which is the easiest option on the busy seafront.

Driving in and around Batumi
In Batumi itself you hardly need a car: the boulevard, the old town and the beaches are close together, and taxis are cheap. A car opens up Adjara's hinterland, from the Mtirala rainforest and Makhuntseti waterfall to the wooden villages of upper Adjara and the high Goderdzi Pass.
From June to September scooters and e-bikes are the fun way to get around the seafront and down to Gonio. Most scooters need a moped or light-motorcycle licence, and a helmet is compulsory.
- Traffic on the seafront is slow in July and August; a scooter or bike is quicker for short trips.
- Most contracts do not allow a rental car into Turkey at the Sarpi border. Ask before you plan it.
- On mountain roads in Adjara, watch for cows and slow lorries around blind bends.

Renting in Batumi: FAQ
Can I rent a scooter in Batumi without a motorcycle licence?
Usually not. Most firms ask for a moped (AM) or light motorcycle (A1) licence and riders aged 18 or over. E-bikes and bicycles need no licence.
Do I need a car in Batumi?
Not for the city and beaches. A car is worth it for day trips into the Adjara mountains, to Mtirala or over the Goderdzi Pass.
Can I take a rental car from Batumi to Turkey?
Most Georgian rental firms do not allow it, and their insurance does not cover Turkey. If you need to cross, tell us and we look for a firm that permits it.
