Weather in Georgia: Climate by Month
Georgia weather varies far more than the size of the country suggests. Moist air from the Black Sea soaks the west, where Batumi collects about 2,500 mm of rain a year, while Tbilisi, east of the Likhi range that splits the country in two, gets only about 510 mm. The Greater Caucasus along the northern border holds deep snow and shelters the lowlands from the coldest northern air, and the Lesser Caucasus in the south lifts the Javakheti plateau to cold, dry heights. In August, Tbilisi reaches almost 32 °C (89 °F), while Gudauri, two hours north, stops near 19 °C (66 °F). Below you will find Georgia weather by month for 62 places.

Black Sea coast
The Black Sea coast, from Anaklia in the north to Sarpi at the Turkish border, is humid subtropical: mild winters, warm, sticky summers and rain in every month. August highs run from about 27 °C at Gonio and Sarpi to 29 °C at Ureki, Grigoleti and Poti, and the sea peaks near 27 °C. Winter days still reach 11-13 °C and snow seldom settles. Adjara is the wettest stretch, about 2,400-2,550 mm a year, while Anaklia gets about 1,700 mm.
Kutaisi and the western lowlands
The western lowlands around Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Martvili and Tskaltubo share the coast's damp, muggy air but lie further from the sea. Summers are hot, about 30 °C in August, and rain is generous, roughly 1,350-1,900 mm a year, which keeps the canyons and forests green. Winters are mild, with January days of 9-11 °C. Kutaisi is known for strong, dry east winds blowing down from the Likhi range, which can make a winter day suddenly warm.
Tbilisi, Kakheti and the east
East of the Likhi range the climate turns drier and more continental. Tbilisi gets about 510 mm of rain a year, and Rustavi and Marneuli only around 400 mm, which makes them semi-arid. Summers are hot: Tbilisi averages almost 32 °C in August and Rustavi about 35 °C in July, the highest on our list. Winters are cool and mostly dry, with January nights near freezing. In Tbilisi and Kakheti, May and June bring the most rain, often in thunderstorms.
Mountains (1,300 m and higher)
Above about 1,300 m the mountains have real winters. Snow usually covers Mestia and Kazbegi from about November to March, and Gudauri, Ushguli and Tetnuldi from about October to April, with January nights of -7 to -13 °C across the high villages. Summers are short and fresh, with August highs of 19-25 °C, ideal for hiking. Several roads are seasonal: the Abano Pass to Tusheti usually opens only from late May or June to October. Ski resorts usually run from December to April.
