May is the driest month of the year, about 91 mm, which makes it the best spring month for the parkland around the old sanatoriums and for trips to Okatse Canyon. Kinchkha Waterfall usually runs fullest in spring.

Best time to visit Tskaltubo

JFMAMJJASOND
Best weatherGoodLess pleasant or closed

The best time to visit Tskaltubo is May, September or early October. Days are warm, between 22 and 27 °C, and the sticky heat of midsummer has either not arrived or has faded, so walking around the spa park and the nearby canyons is comfortable. June to August suit visitors pairing the baths with cave tours who do not mind 30 °C afternoons. The baths usually run all year, so a winter stay works if you accept grey, wet days.

Local weather tip

Tskaltubo weather by month shows one clear difference from Kutaisi, only about 10 km away: more rain. The spa town gets roughly 1,690 mm a year against 1,360 mm, and its peak comes in December rather than October. Paths through the spa park and around the abandoned sanatoriums turn muddy and slippery after rain, so wear shoes with grip and save the baths for a downpour.

What to pack for Tskaltubo

  • Light layer for the cool air inside Prometheus Cave
  • Umbrella for winter, when December brings about 193 mm
  • Breathable clothes for humid 30 °C August days
  • Shoes with grip for muddy spa-park paths
  • Light rain jacket for spring at Okatse Canyon
