Georgia Weather in September
Georgia weather in September arrives with the grape harvest. As rtveli gets going in Kakheti, Telavi and Sighnaghi settle into warm, mostly dry days of about 25-26 °C (77-79 °F), and Tbilisi averages about 27 °C (81 °F) with only 5 rainy days. The heat of August eases, nights cool to about 15-16 °C, and for most of the country no month is more comfortable. The one twist is the coast: the water stays near 25 °C (77 °F), yet Batumi has its wettest month, about 330 mm.
Black Sea coast
The water is still about 25 °C from Anaklia to Sarpi, and Batumi's afternoons match it. But this is Batumi's rainiest month, about 330 mm over 11 days, with Kobuleti close behind at 309 mm. At roughly 30 mm per wet day, the rain comes in heavy bursts, and the other days are often fine. Anaklia, at about 186 mm, is the drier pick for a late beach week.
Kutaisi and the western lowlands
Imereti stays summery: Kutaisi averages almost 27 °C by day and 17 °C at night, with about 116 mm of rain over 8 days. Tskaltubo and Zugdidi are similar. Racha begins its own harvest, with Oni near 25 °C, and the regional wine festival in Ambrolauri or Tsageri usually falls in autumn. Canyons and caves are quieter once the August crowds have gone.
Tbilisi, Kakheti and the east
Harvest weather in Kakheti is dependable: Telavi averages about 26 °C, Sighnaghi about 25 °C and Kvareli about 27 °C by day, with nights near 14-17 °C. Kvareli still collects some 100 mm of rain over about 7 days, while Tbilisi stays dry at roughly 35 mm. The Tsinandali Festival fills the old Chavchavadze estate with concerts in early September, and Alaverdoba is held at Alaverdi Cathedral near the end of the month.
Mountains (1,300 m and higher)
Early autumn is a fine time to be in the mountains. Mestia averages about 20 °C by day and Kazbegi 18 °C, and Kazbegi has only about 8 wet days and 59 mm, its driest month since March. Nights are turning cold, about 5 °C in Ushguli and near 0 °C at the Abano Pass. The Tusheti road stays open through September, but plan to be out before the first heavy snow, which usually closes it in October.

At their best in September
What September is good for
September is a top choice for wine and walking. Join the harvest in Kakheti, where wineries around Telavi, Kvareli and Sighnaghi pick and press from mid-month, and spend some days in Tbilisi, which is finally comfortable for long walks. Hikers get settled weather in Svaneti, Kazbegi and Tusheti before the cold sets in. Swimmers still have warm water at Batumi, Kobuleti or Anaklia, if they accept the odd stormy day. The weather in Georgia in September leaves little to skip beyond the highest passes on frosty nights.

Georgia in September: weather FAQ
Can you join the grape harvest in Kakheti in September?
Often, yes: many family wineries around Telavi, Kvareli and Sighnaghi welcome visitors for picking and pressing once rtveli begins, usually from mid-September, with the exact start set each season. The weather helps. Telavi's afternoons peak near 26 °C (79 °F) and its nights settle around 15 °C (59 °F), with rain on around 7 days. Imereti and Racha pick later, into late October.
Is Anaklia drier than Batumi in September?
Much drier. Anaklia, at the northern end of the coast by the mouth of the Enguri, gets about 186 mm in September, while Batumi, the wettest city this month, collects about 330 mm, its highest total of the year. The beach weather is otherwise similar: the sea is about 25 °C (77 °F) at both, and Anaklia's afternoons reach about 26 °C (79 °F).
Is September good weather for Vardzia and Borjomi?
Yes, it is one of the best months for both. Borjomi tops out near 24 °C (76 °F), cooling to 11 °C (52 °F) after dark, and Vardzia, higher up the Mtkvari gorge, about 24 °C with cooler nights near 8 °C (46 °F). Both are fairly dry, with roughly 45-51 mm of rain over about 7 wet days. Bring a jacket for the evenings.

Yes, and they are at their most settled. Mestia's highs run near 20 °C (68 °F) and Kazbegi's near 18 °C (64 °F), with fewer showers than in June or July. The Abano Pass road to Tusheti usually stays open until the first heavy snow in October, though Omalo's nights drop to about 7 °C (45 °F), so pack properly warm layers.
