Bakuriani weather through the year
SpringMar–May
March is still winter on the slopes, with highs of about 6 °C, nights near -5 °C and spring snow that turns soft by early afternoon, so ski in the morning. The season usually winds down at the end of the month. April brings the thaw and the cloudiest skies of the year (47%). May is the wettest month, about 115 mm on 16 days, and the meadows turn green between showers.
Highs 6° to 16° · lows −5° to 4° · 254 mm rain
SummerJun–Aug
June is still showery, with about 114 mm on 15 days, but July and August settle down: highs of 23 to 24 °C, lows near 10 °C and rain on roughly 10 or 11 days a month. Afternoons run 8 to 9 degrees cooler than in Tbilisi, which is why Georgian families rent cottages here for the holidays. Carry a fleece for the evenings and a light shell for passing showers.
Highs 20° to 24° · lows 7° to 10° · 257 mm rain
AutumnSep–Nov
September is the clearest month (30% cloud) and one of the best: about 19 °C by day, 6 °C at night and rain on only about nine days. October cools to 14 °C, and the forest edges turn yellow. By November highs are near 7 °C and nights drop to about -4 °C, so the first snow that stays on the ground is usually not far off.
Highs 7° to 19° · lows −4° to 6° · 189 mm rain
WinterDec–Feb
December highs average about 1 °C, with nights around -8 °C, and snowmaking on Didveli helps when natural snow is thin early on. January is the coldest month, with highs close to -1 °C and lows near -10 °C, which keeps the snow dry and light. February is almost as cold, with about 59 mm of precipitation. Days are short: in late December the sun is up only from about 08:30 to 17:35.

Best time to visit Bakuriani
Ski season
The best time to visit Bakuriani depends on what you come for, and Bakuriani weather by month splits neatly into a ski half and a walking half. For skiing, January and February are the surest months, when steady cold keeps the snow in good shape on Didveli and Kokhta; late December works too but books out for New Year, and March gives softer snow and sunsets after 19:00. For hiking, the botanical garden and the rough track over to Tabatskuri Lake, come from July to September: August is the warmest month, September the clearest. Late spring is wet and muddy.
Snow rules the weather in Bakuriani: in a typical winter it lies from about November to March. The practical consequence is the 30 km road up from Borjomi, which climbs about 900 m through forest and is snowy or icy for much of that time. Winter tyres or chains are essential, and after a heavy fall the usual 40-minute drive can take far longer. Unused to snowy mountain roads? Let a local driver take the wheel.

Bakuriani weather: FAQ
When does Bakuriani's ski season open and close?
The season usually opens in the second half of December and runs through March. Snowmaking on Didveli helps in the first weeks, when natural cover can be thin, and January afternoons of about -1 °C (30 °F) keep the main runs firm. January and February are the most reliable months. The New Year holidays are the busiest of the winter, so book rooms and ski hire early for that week.
How cold is Bakuriani in January?
Cold, but rarely brutal. The average January high is about -1 °C (30 °F) and the average low about -10 °C (14 °F), so the first lifts of the morning are the chilliest part of the day. Near the top of Didveli, at ~2,700 m, it is colder and windier than in the village, so dress for the summit rather than for the thermometer outside your hotel.
Is there still snow in Bakuriani in March?
Usually, yes. March highs average about 6 °C (42 °F), but nights still fall to around -5 °C (23 °F), so the snow freezes overnight and softens as the day warms. In a typical winter the village stays white until about the end of March, and the upper slopes hold their snow longest. Ski early, then enjoy the longer afternoons.
What is Bakuriani like in summer?
Green, quiet and pleasantly cool. August highs are about 24 °C (75 °F) and July is about a degree lower, with nights near 10 °C (50 °F), while Borjomi, 30 km down the road, sits at around 29 °C (84 °F) in August. Showers fall on about one day in three, so plan forest walks and the botanical garden with a little flexibility.
