Shekvetili Weather

Shekvetili weather is the same warm, humid Guria climate as its neighbours, but here a belt of pine forest runs right behind the dark sand, so shade is a few steps away. Afternoons in August climb to about 29 °C (84 °F), and the sea averages nearly 27 °C (80 °F). Yearly rain comes to about 2,090 mm. Summer suits beach weeks and concerts at the Black Sea Arena; spring and autumn suit the Dendrological Park.

Best time to visit Shekvetili

JFMAMJJASOND
Best: sea 24 °C or warmerGood: sea 21–24 °CCooler sea

The best time to visit Shekvetili for swimming and concerts is late July and August, when the sea is 26-27 °C and the Black Sea Arena stages most of its big shows. For a quieter beach week, early September is better: water still near 25 °C, the clearest skies of the year and fewer people on the sand. If the Dendrological Park is your goal, come in May or early October, with highs of 21-22 °C.

Local weather tip

The strip of pines between the road and the beach gives the weather in Shekvetili its own character. Under the trees, midday shade takes the edge off 28-29 °C August afternoons, and the forest smells of resin after a shower. The trade-off is insects on still, humid evenings. Plan picnics in the forest at lunchtime, swim in the morning and late afternoon, and use repellent after dusk.

What to pack for Shekvetili

  • Insect repellent for evenings under the pines
  • A thin waterproof for concert nights in August
  • Sandals for dark sand that heats up at midday
  • A sweater for October evenings in the forest
  • Comfortable walking shoes for the Dendrological Park

Shekvetili weather: FAQ

Will it rain on my Black Sea Arena concert night?

Possibly. Most big shows fall in late July and August, and August has about 10 rain days. Evenings are warm and humid, with nights averaging about 20 °C (68 °F) after afternoons near 29 °C (84 °F), so light clothes and a thin rain jacket cover both.

Is Shekvetili hotter than Kobuleti?

Slightly. August highs average about 29 °C (84 °F) in Shekvetili against roughly 28 °C (83 °F) at Kobuleti, and the Shekvetili weather by month shows less rain too, about 2,090 mm a year instead of 2,520 mm. Nights and sea temperatures are almost identical. The pine forest behind the beach makes the heat easier to handle.

When is the sea warmest in Shekvetili?

In August, at about 27 °C (80 °F), with July and September close behind at about 25-26 °C. June averages about 23 °C (73 °F), fine for a swim on a sunny day. By October the water is down to about 21 °C, and through winter and early spring it hovers around 10-14 °C.

Is May a good time to visit Shekvetili?

For walking, yes. May is the driest month, with about 75 mm of rain, and highs near 22 °C (72 °F) are ideal for the Dendrological Park. It is early for most swimmers, though: the water is a brisk 17 °C (63 °F) or so, and the beach season has not yet begun.
