Ureki weather through the year

SpringMar–May

Spring warms fast here: highs jump from 15 °C in March to 23 °C in May, about three degrees ahead of Batumi. May is the driest month, about 72 mm. With the water only 10-17 °C, this is a time for walks on the dark sand and day trips rather than swimming, and most beach cafes stay shut until the season opens.

Highs 15° to 23° · lows 5° to 13° · 281 mm rain · sea 10° to 17°

SummerJun–Aug

Summer is the high season and the hottest stretch: highs of 27 °C in June and 29 °C in July and August, with nights around 20 °C. The black sand soaks up the sun and gets very hot by midday. Swimmers find the water at about 23 °C in early summer and 26-27 °C at its peak. About 10 rain days a month bring short breaks in the beach routine, not lost weeks.

Highs 27° to 29° · lows 17° to 20° · 481 mm rain · sea 23° to 27°

AutumnSep–Nov

Cloud thins to about 30% in September, the lowest of the year, while highs stay near 27 °C and the sea still holds about 25 °C. It is also the wettest month, about 225 mm, though on only 10 days. October cools to 22 °C with water near 21 °C, and by November most of the resort has closed.

Highs 17° to 27° · lows 6° to 16° · 647 mm rain · sea 17° to 25°

WinterDec–Feb

From December to February the resort sleeps. Afternoons stay mild at about 11-13 °C, while nights slip to 2-4 °C, chillier than Batumi's. Expect 12-13 wet days a month and roughly 145-210 mm, far less than the Adjara coast receives. Snow is rare and melts fast. Nearly every hotel and cafe closes, so treat Ureki as a winter walk rather than a place to stay.

Best time to visit Ureki

JFMAMJJASOND
Best: sea 24 °C or warmerGood: sea 21–24 °CCooler sea

The best time to visit Ureki is July to early September, when the water reaches 25-27 °C and the shallows are warmest for children. Late June is quieter, with the sea near 23 °C and clear early-summer skies. September has the least cloud of the year and warm water, though a few days bring heavy rain. Spring and autumn suit a walk on the magnetic sand but are too cool for a swim.

Local weather tip

Ureki's sand is black because it is rich in magnetite, and dark sand soaks up heat. When the weather in Ureki turns sunny in July and August, with air near 29 °C, the surface can get hot enough to hurt bare feet, while the shallow water stays pleasant. Lay towels on a mat, put children in sandals, and plan beach hours for the morning and late afternoon.

What to pack for Ureki

  • Beach sandals, as black sand scorches bare feet at noon
  • A sun tent or umbrella for small children
  • High-factor sunscreen for 29 °C August afternoons
  • A light rain jacket for September showers
  • A sweater for cool evenings in late May and October
