Georgia weather in April turns the rain map upside down. Batumi has its driest month of the year, about 90 mm, while Tbilisi's rainfall doubles to some 64 mm as spring showers reach the east. At their best in April
Ski season: Gudauri, Tetnuldi, Goderdzi usually run lifts in April until about mid-month.
What April is good for
April suits lowland touring, Easter and spring city breaks. Walk Tbilisi before the summer heat, take day trips to Mtskheta and the Kakheti wineries, or spend a few days around Kutaisi for the canyons, caves and Gelati. Vardzia and Akhaltsikhe are comfortable at about 15-17 °C by day. Orthodox Easter usually falls in April, with midnight services and four days off. The weather in Georgia in April is not yet right for high treks, Tusheti or sea swimming, and skiers should aim for early in the month at Gudauri.

Georgia in April: weather FAQ
Can you get to Tusheti in April?
Not by road. Tusheti's single access road climbs to 2,950 m at the Abano Pass and is usually closed from October until late May or June; in April the pass stays below about 1 °C (34 °F) even at midday, with frequent snow. Omalo itself is still cold, about 8 °C (46 °F) at midday. Plan Tusheti for July to September instead.
Is the Black Sea warm enough to swim in April?
For most people, no. The water off Batumi, Kobuleti and Ureki averages about 12 °C (54 °F) in April, and the air reaches only 16-19 °C (61-66 °F). Hardy winter swimmers do go in on sunny days. The sea warms quickly from May, to about 17 °C, and becomes comfortable in late June, when it is near 23 °C.
Is April too early for hiking in Kazbegi?
For high routes, yes. Kazbegi village reaches about 10 °C (50 °F) at midday and sits just above freezing at night, with about 88 mm of rain or snow over 10 days, and the trail beyond Gergeti Trinity Church towards the glacier usually stays snowbound. The climb to the church itself and short valley walks are usually fine in waterproof boots.
What should you expect at Vardzia in April?
Pleasant days of about 15 °C (59 °F), but the valley cools fast after dark and nights fall to about 2 °C (36 °F). Rain is light, around 47 mm. Bring a warm layer for the cave monastery's shaded passages, and note that Akhaltsikhe, on the drive up the Mtkvari gorge, is a couple of degrees warmer at about 17 °C.
