Georgia Weather in March
Georgia weather in March is spring in the lowlands and still winter on the heights. In Tbilisi, afternoons climb to about 14 °C (57 °F), almost five degrees warmer than in February, though nights still dip to around 4 °C (39 °F). The western lowlands warm first, so Kutaisi and Zugdidi now edge past Batumi, where the air reaches about 14 °C and the sea stays near 10 °C (50 °F). Higher up, Gudauri gets more precipitation than in any other month of its ski season, most of it as snow, with highs near 2 °C (36 °F).
Black Sea coast
The coast is still cool and damp in March. Batumi's highs sit near 14 °C and its lows near 7 °C, with around 157 mm of rain over 13 days, and Kobuleti is slightly wetter. The sea holds at its winter low of about 10 °C. Anaklia gets the least rain on the coast, about 108 mm, and the mildest nights, near 8 °C. Promenade weather, not beach weather.
Kutaisi and the western lowlands
Imereti and Samegrelo lead the spring. Lanchkhuti and Zugdidi reach about 15 °C and Kutaisi about 14 °C, with nights near 6 °C that are frost-free on most days. Rain is frequent, about 134 mm in Kutaisi over 12 wet days, which keeps the rivers in the Martvili and Okatse canyons high and the hillsides green. Tskaltubo's spa town is at its quietest.
Tbilisi, Kakheti and the east
Tbilisi turns mild by day, about 13-14 °C, and stays fairly dry with roughly 29 mm of rain over 5 days. Rustavi is the warmest town in the east at about 15 °C. Kakheti lags a little and gets wetter: Telavi sees about 52 mm, and Sighnaghi, higher up, only reaches 11 °C. Nights are cool everywhere, from about 4 °C in Tbilisi to 1-2 °C in Sighnaghi and Gori, so early fruit blossom can still meet a late frost.
Mountains (1,300 m and higher)
Late-winter storms keep Gudauri well supplied: about 151 mm of precipitation over 13 days, with nights near -7 °C. March is usually Bakuriani's final month, as its slopes warm to about 6 °C by day, while Tetnuldi and Goderdzi usually run into April. Kazbegi thaws at noon (about 5-6 °C) and freezes again at night, and the path to Gergeti Trinity Church is usually icy. Roads into Tusheti and Shatili and over the Zagari Pass stay closed.

Ski season: Gudauri, Tetnuldi, Bakuriani, Goderdzi usually run lifts in March.
What March is good for
The weather in Georgia in March favours Tbilisi, the Kutaisi area and late-season skiing. Mix city walks in Tbilisi with a day in Mtskheta, then spend a few days in Imereti for Gelati Monastery, Martvili Canyon and Prometheus Cave outside Tskaltubo. Skiers get the last weeks at Bakuriani and plenty of fresh snow at Gudauri. On 8 March flower sellers fill the streets for Women's Day. Vardzia is open but cold, with frosty nights near -4 °C. Leave high trekking, Tusheti and swimming for later in the year.

Georgia in March: weather FAQ
Is Kazbegi open in March?
Yes. Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) can be reached and most guesthouses stay open, but snowstorms can shut the Jvari Pass, sometimes for longer than a day, mostly between December and April. In March the village sees highs of about 6 °C (43 °F) and lows of -4 °C (25 °F), and trails are often snowy, so wear boots with grip.
Are Georgia's ski resorts still open in March?
Yes. March brings Gudauri its biggest snowfalls of the season, and Gudauri, Tetnuldi and Goderdzi usually stay open into April. Bakuriani usually closes during March, so go early in the month. Expect firm, icy runs in the morning, since Gudauri's nights still fall to about -7 °C (19 °F), and softer snow on sunny afternoons.
Is it cold in Sighnaghi and Kakheti in March?
Cool rather than cold by day. Sighnaghi, at ~790 m, reaches about 11 °C (52 °F) and falls to around 2 °C (36 °F) at night, so light frost is still possible. Telavi and Kvareli in the valley are milder at about 13 °C (55 °F). Rain picks up compared with winter, roughly 52-68 mm over 8-10 days, so pack a waterproof.
Is March still winter in Mestia?
Mostly, yes. Mestia reaches about 6.5 °C (44 °F) on a mild afternoon but frost returns every night, around -3 °C (27 °F), and the slopes above the village usually still hold snow. Tetnuldi's lifts are normally running. Expect about 9 days of snow or rain, and a road to Ushguli that can need chains after a fresh fall.
