Georgia Weather in February
Georgia weather in February is late winter with the first small signs of change. Tbilisi edges up to about 9 °C (48 °F) in the afternoon, with frosty nights near 0 °C (32 °F) and very little rain, and the days are an hour longer than in January. On the coast, Batumi still reaches about 12 °C (54 °F), yet the Black Sea drops to its lowest point of the year, close to 10 °C (50 °F). The resorts stay firmly frozen: Gudauri averages about -2 °C (28 °F) by day and has its coldest nights of the winter, around -10 °C (14 °F).
Black Sea coast
February is the coldest month for the sea: Batumi's water averages about 10 °C, and Ureki, Kobuleti and Poti match it. The air is gentler than that sounds, around 11-12 °C by day, and Batumi's nights hold near 5 °C. Rain is lighter than in January, about 183 mm in Batumi over 13 days. Anaklia, the driest beach town at about 113 mm, has the mildest nights, around 6 °C.
Kutaisi and the western lowlands
The western lowlands warm a little faster than the coast. Zugdidi and Lanchkhuti reach almost 12 °C, Kutaisi about 10-11 °C, and Kutaisi's rain eases to roughly 117 mm over 11 days. Nights stay above freezing across most of Imereti. It is a calm, low-season month for Gelati, Motsameta and the Martvili area, though forest paths and canyon trails can be muddy.
Tbilisi, Kakheti and the east
Tbilisi stays very dry, about 18 mm over 4 days, and most afternoons reach 8-9 °C. Rustavi touches 10-11 °C. Kakheti remains chilly, with Telavi near 8 °C, Sighnaghi below 7 °C and light frost on most nights. Mtskheta and Gori feel much like Tbilisi, so short sightseeing days work well if you dress for cold mornings. Further south-west, Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe still freeze hard after dark, about -4 to -6 °C.
Mountains (1,300 m and higher)
Upper Svaneti lights its Lamproba torches around 14 February, in villages where Mestia climbs to about 3 °C by day and Ushguli stays below freezing. All four resorts keep their lifts turning, and Gudauri's nights reach their winter low near -10 °C. Kazbegi is crisp at about 1 °C in the afternoon. The passes into Tusheti and Khevsureti and the Zagari road out of Ushguli remain shut, and a storm can close the Jvari Pass for a day.

What February is good for
February is for skiing with fewer holiday crowds than early January, for Lamproba in Svaneti, and for Berikaoba masked plays when the carnival week falls this month. The weather in Georgia in February also suits museum days in Tbilisi and tastings in Kakheti's wine cellars, where the cold hardly matters. Skip beach plans, the high passes and any trek in Tusheti or Khevsureti. If you drive the Georgian Military Road to Kazbegi, keep a spare day for snow closures.

Georgia in February: weather FAQ
When is the Black Sea at its coldest?
In February, with March almost as cold. Off Batumi the water averages about 10 °C (50 °F), and Ureki, Kobuleti and Poti are much the same, so only winter swimmers go in. The air on the coast is kinder, around 11-12 °C (52-54 °F) by day, which makes a walk along Batumi Boulevard pleasant on a dry afternoon.
What is the weather like in Mestia during Lamproba?
Lamproba falls around 14 February, when Mestia is cold but rarely brutal: about 3 °C (37 °F) at midday and about -7 °C (19 °F) overnight; roughly 10 days of the month bring snow or rain. Expect snow on the ground, and dress for standing outside after dark, when the torches are lit and carried through the village.
How many hours of daylight does February have in Georgia?
About 10.5 hours, roughly an hour more than in January, and the gain is the same from the coast to the mountains. That gives a full day for the drive from Tbilisi to Kazbegi or a long session on the slopes at Gudauri or Bakuriani, with time to get back before the evening frost.
Is Batumi rainy in February?
Yes, but less than in January: about 183 mm falls over roughly 13 days, compared with some 235 mm the month before. That still leaves about half the days dry, with highs near 12 °C (54 °F). Pack an umbrella, save the Batumi Botanical Garden for a dry day and keep museums and cafes for the wet ones.
