What to wear in Tbilisi in February

A medium winter coat, a scarf and a warm sweater handle most of the weather in Tbilisi in February. Mornings can be frosty, so gloves earn their place. With so little rain, an umbrella mostly stays in the bag. If skiing is on the plan, bring thermal layers, goggles and waterproof gloves.

What February is good for

February is the quietest month for visitors, so the Georgian National Museum and the Chronicles of Georgia feel uncrowded. In years when Lent starts early, villages may hold Berikaoba, the masked carnival, late in the month. Skiers are spoiled: Gudauri sits around -2 °C by day with nights near -10 °C, and Bakuriani above Borjomi is in season too. Borjomi town reaches about 7 °C, Sighnaghi in Kakheti about the same, and Telavi 8 °C.

Tbilisi in February: FAQ

What is Tbilisi like in February?

Quiet, cool and mostly dry, which suits travellers who like a city to themselves. Days reach about 9 °C (48 °F), with roughly four rainy days in the month. Pack warm layers for nights near 0 °C (32 °F), and pair the city with a ski day at Gudauri or an evening soak in the Abanotubani baths.

Can you ski near Tbilisi in February?

Yes. Gudauri, the nearest big resort, lies roughly two hours up the Georgian Military Road and is in the heart of its season, with afternoons near -2 °C (28 °F). Bakuriani, above Borjomi, is the gentler, family-friendly choice. Leave early, because snow can slow traffic or close the road beyond Gudauri.
