Georgia Weather in June
Georgia weather in June opens the swimming season. The Black Sea off Batumi warms to about 23 °C (73 °F), the first month when most people happily stay in, and the coast reaches about 25 °C (77 °F) by day. Inland, summer has already arrived: Tbilisi averages about 29 °C (84 °F), with warm nights near 17 °C (63 °F). The mountains come into their own as snow clears from the valleys. Mestia and Kazbegi reach about 19-21 °C (66-70 °F), and the 4x4 track over the Abano Pass to Tusheti usually opens during the month.
Black Sea coast
The sea reaches about 23 °C all the way from Anaklia to Sarpi. Batumi averages about 25 °C by day and 18 °C at night, with Ureki and Kobuleti a degree or two warmer in the afternoon. Rain is moderate, about 141 mm in Batumi over 10 days, so expect a few grey or showery beach days. Gonio, under the Adjara hills, stays a touch cooler at about 24 °C.
Kutaisi and the western lowlands
Kutaisi and the rest of lowland Imereti warm to about 27 °C, with nights near 17-18 °C that begin to feel sticky. Samegrelo turns wet again: Zugdidi gets about 197 mm and Martvili about 185 mm, though rain falls on only 9 to 11 days. Upland Racha is pleasant, with Oni near 26 °C by day and cooler nights around 13 °C.
Tbilisi, Kakheti and the east
Tbilisi warms to about 29 °C, with roughly 84 mm of rain on 8 days, often as a short thunderstorm after a hot afternoon. Rustavi, the hottest town in the east, passes 31 °C. Kakheti is still fairly wet: Kvareli gets about 127 mm and Lagodekhi about 118 mm, which keeps the Caucasus foothills lush. Sighnaghi and Dedoplistskaro, both near 27 °C by day and 16 °C at night, enjoy one of their most comfortable months.
Mountains (1,300 m and higher)
June is when the high country reopens. The Abano Pass road to Omalo usually opens to 4x4s in June, and the Datvisjvari Pass to Shatili around the start of the month. Mestia reaches about 21 °C by day and Kazbegi about 19 °C, though both see showers on roughly 14 days. Snow can still cover high crossings such as the Chaukhi Pass above Juta. Lomisoba, usually in June, takes pilgrims from Mleta up Mount Lomisi.

At their best in June
What June is good for
The weather in Georgia in June suits almost every kind of trip. Mix beach days in Batumi, Kobuleti or Ureki with hiking from Mestia and Kazbegi, and comfortable sightseeing in Borjomi, Vardzia and Akhaltsikhe, where days sit near 24-26 °C. Tusheti becomes possible once the Abano road opens; check first, as the date shifts every year. Sighnaghi and the Kakheti villages are green, though showers are common. Avoid the highest passes, which can still hold snow, and keep Tbilisi walks for the morning or evening.

Georgia in June: weather FAQ
When can you start swimming in the Black Sea in Georgia?
In June. The sea warms from about 17 °C (63 °F) in May to roughly 23 °C (73 °F) in June, which most swimmers find comfortable, and it keeps rising to about 27 °C (81 °F) in August. Early June can still feel fresh, so long swims at Batumi, Kobuleti or Ureki are more pleasant after mid-month.
Is the road to Tusheti open in June?
Usually, but not always from the first day. The 4x4 road over the Abano Pass has opened between late May and late June in recent years, and storms can shut it again briefly. Once you are in, Omalo is mild: afternoons near 19 °C (66 °F), with 8 °C (46 °F) after dark. Check the Roads Department notices before booking a transfer.
Is Kutaisi too hot in June?
Not yet, though it is getting sticky. Kutaisi's thermometer reaches about 27 °C (81 °F) by mid-afternoon, and nights stay near 18 °C (64 °F), close to Tbilisi's figures. Rain is moderate, about 101 mm over 9 days. Plan Gelati and Motsameta for the morning, and spend the hottest hours underground at Prometheus Cave or in the shade of the Martvili canyon.
Can you hike from Mestia in June?
Yes. Lower and middle routes, such as the walk to Chalaadi Glacier and the Koruldi Lakes trail, are usually open, though the lakes can hold snow early in the month. Mestia averages about 21 °C (70 °F) by day and 9 °C (48 °F) at night, with showers on about 14 days. The multi-day Mestia to Ushguli trek is usually best from late June.
