Georgia Weather in July
Georgia weather in July is a story of altitude. Down in Tbilisi the afternoons average about 32 °C (89 °F) and evenings stay warm, near 20 °C (68 °F), while Rustavi just to the south-east tops 34 °C (94 °F). Climb into the Greater Caucasus and the heat falls away: Kazbegi, Mestia and Omalo in Tusheti sit between 22 and 24 °C (72-75 °F) by day, with fresh nights around 11-12 °C. On the coast the Black Sea warms to about 26 °C (78 °F), and Batumi is warm, a little muggy and made for beach days.
Black Sea coast
Beach season peaks. The sea averages about 26 °C from Anaklia to Gonio, and Batumi reaches about 27 °C by day and 21 °C at night. Rain still falls on about 10 days, some 165 mm in Batumi and nearer 193 mm in Kobuleti. Grigoleti, Ureki and Poti are the warmest beach towns, at 28.5-29 °C. The Black Sea Jazz Festival brings concerts to Batumi in mid-July.
Kutaisi and the western lowlands
The western lowlands are hot and steamy. Kutaisi, Tskaltubo and Zugdidi all average about 29-30 °C by day, with nights around 20 °C that offer little relief. Kutaisi stays fairly dry at about 86 mm, but Martvili and Zugdidi collect around 170-180 mm. Cooler air is close by: the Sairme spa, at about 950 m, runs three or four degrees below Kutaisi.
Tbilisi, Kakheti and the east
July is the hottest month in Rustavi, about 35 °C by day, and Tbilisi is close behind at about 32 °C. It is dry, too: Tbilisi gets only about 42 mm over 6 days. Up on its ridge, Sighnaghi stays near 30 °C, while the Alazani Valley around Kvareli and Lagodekhi passes 31-32 °C. Sightseeing works best before 11:00 and after 17:00, and the Art-Gene folk festival and Tbilisi Open Air fill the evenings.
Mountains (1,300 m and higher)
July opens the prime mountain season. Kazbegi averages about 22 °C by day, Mestia 24 °C and Ushguli about 20 °C, with nights between 9 and 12 °C. Showers build on many afternoons, with 11-14 wet days, so start hikes early. Tusheti and Khevsureti are open: Atnigenoba feasts fill the Tushetian villages in late July or early August, and Kvirikoba is held above Kala in Svaneti on 28 July. Gudauri, at about 19 °C, is cool even at noon.

At their best in July
What July is good for
July is the month for long treks: Mestia to Ushguli, Juta over the Chaukhi Pass to Roshka, the Gergeti Glacier above Kazbegi and the villages around Omalo in Tusheti. Bakuriani and Borjomi make easy, cooler escapes from Tbilisi. On the coast, Batumi and Kobuleti offer warm water and summer festivals. Keep Tbilisi and the Kakheti wine route to the edges of the day, and skip long midday drives through the eastern lowlands. The weather in Georgia in July rewards anyone who splits the trip between sea and mountains.
