New Wine Festival (Tbilisi)
A one-day tasting in Mtatsminda Park where small producers pour the first wines from the previous autumn's harvest.
Mtatsminda ParkPhoto: Jonathan Cardy, CC BY-SA 3.0The New Wine Festival started as a gathering of small family winemakers and has grown into one of Tbilisi's favourite spring days. Hundreds of producers set up tables in the park on top of Mount Mtatsminda and pour young Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Kisi and other wines, many of them made in qvevri. Entry has been free, and the 2026 edition, the 17th, ran from late morning to early evening.
It is the best single place to taste a wide range of natural and family wines in one afternoon and to meet people you can visit later in Kakheti or Imereti. Ride the funicular up from Chonkadze Street to avoid the traffic on the mountain road.
- Go early: by mid-afternoon the most popular tables are crowded.
- Eat before you taste; food stalls are there, but queues get long.
- Note down the names of producers you like and ask about cellar visits.
