TelaVino (Telavi Wine Festival)
Telavi's harvest wine festival in the courtyard of King Erekle II's palace.
TelaviPhoto: Jelger Groeneveld, CC BY 2.0Since 2014 Telavi has held an autumn wine celebration in the walled royal compound of Batonis Tsikhe, where Erekle II, one of Georgia's best-loved kings, lived in the 18th century. Local wineries pour their new and older vintages, and the programme adds folk music, food stalls and crafts.
Dates are set each year and are not always published far ahead. Telavi is the best base for northern Kakheti, with Alaverdi, Ikalto, Tsinandali and many family cellars nearby.
- Check the Telavi municipality or the national tourism site in September for the date.
- Stay at least one night in Telavi to visit cellars the next day.
