Tetnuldi is Svaneti's larger and higher ski resort, opened for the 2015 to 2016 season on the slopes below Mount Tetnuldi (4,858 m), about 19 km from Mestia. Five modern lifts climb to a top station at about 3,160 m, serving roughly 14 km of marked pistes, most of them easy or intermediate. The longest descent is around 9.5 km. Above the treeline the terrain is wide and open, and on clear days the views stretch across the main Caucasus ridge to Ushba and Shkhara.

Tetnuldi is far quieter than Gudauri and has good freeride terrain, so experienced skiers often hire a local guide for off-piste days. The season normally runs from late December to mid-April. In summer the area lies on the Mestia to Ushguli trekking route: walkers pass the lifts on the steep climb from Zhabeshi before dropping into Adishi. Most skiers stay in Mestia and drive or take a shuttle up each morning.

What to see and do

  • Long intermediate runs with views of Ushba and Shkhara
  • Lifts to about 3,160 m
  • Freeride terrain for experienced skiers with a guide
  • Summer views on the Zhabeshi to Adishi stage of the trek

How to visit

Local tips

Tetnuldi: FAQ

When is the ski season at Tetnuldi?

Usually from late December to mid-April, depending on snow. Check lift status locally, as the upper lifts can close in strong wind.

Tetnuldi or Hatsvali: which is better?

Tetnuldi is bigger and higher, with longer runs and more freeride terrain. Hatsvali is smaller and closer to Mestia, better for beginners or a short half day.
