Key takeaways
  • An Indian passport on its own needs a visa for Georgia (the country), and Georgia gives no visas on arrival, so sort out the paperwork before you fly.
  • Indians with a current US, UK, EU or Schengen, Gulf or other approved visa, or a residence permit from one of those countries, can enter without a Georgian visa for a maximum of 90 days per 180-day period.
  • Everyone else applies online at evisa.gov.ge: 20 USD and a 2 percent service charge, then a 15 USD DuVerify check (about ₹3,400 in all), a decision in no less than five working days, one entry and up to 30 days within a 120-day window.
  • Under a law that took effect on 1 January 2026, all foreign tourists must carry medical and accident cover for Georgia on every day of the visit, insured for 30,000 GEL or more (about ₹11 lakh).
  • At the border, have your passport, the e-visa or qualifying visa, the insurance certificate, hotel bookings, a return ticket and a recent bank statement ready on paper.

Georgia visa for Indians, in two sentences: an Indian passport by itself needs a visa, but the paperwork is light. If your passport already carries a current visa, or you have a residence card, from the United States, the UK, the EU and Schengen area, the Gulf or another country on Georgia's approved list, you can land without any Georgian visa and remain up to 90 days in a 180-day period; if you do not, the Georgian e-visa costs about 35 US dollars all in and takes around half an hour to fill in online.

This guide is written for travellers from India and for Indians living in the Gulf. We checked it against the consular site of Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the official e-visa portal and the Georgian Embassy in New Delhi on 18 October 2026. It covers both routes, the e-visa form step by step, the papers border officers ask for, the insurance rule that began in 2026, flights from Indian cities, money and SIM cards, and how a private tour works. Rules for every nationality, such as customs limits and land borders, are in our guide to entry requirements.

Georgia visa for Indians: do you need one?

Yes, unless the third-country exemption covers you. On the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list, India sits among the countries whose citizens have to obtain a visa before they travel, and no visa is issued on arrival at Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airports or at the land crossings. For a holiday, Indian citizens have three legal ways in, and the best one depends on what else is already stamped in your passport.

Whichever route you pick, the arrival checks are the same: a sound passport, the insurance policy that became compulsory in 2026, and proof of where you will sleep and how you will pay for the trip. The border documents section below lists them one by one.

Check your own case firstOur visa checker shows the current rule for an Indian passport, with the date we last checked it. For an unusual situation, such as a permit that expires during the trip, email the Georgian Embassy in New Delhi before you pay for flights.

Visa-free entry for Indians with a US, UK, Schengen or Gulf visa

This is the route a large share of Indian visitors use, above all the big Indian communities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh, Kuwait City and Muscat. Under Georgian Government Ordinance No. 256 of 5 June 2015, an Indian citizen whose passport carries a current visa from a listed country, or who has a residence permit there, may come in without a Georgian visa and spend as many as 90 days in Georgia inside each 180-day stretch. The Ministry sets one condition on the visa itself: it must still be in date on the day you cross the Georgian border. Nothing in the rule says you must have used it already.

Which countries' visas and permits count

GroupCountries whose visa or residence permit qualifies
European UnionAll 27 member states, Schengen and non-Schengen alike, so Ireland and Cyprus count as well as France, Germany or Italy
Rest of EuropeUnited Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein
North America and OceaniaUnited States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand
AsiaJapan, South Korea, Israel
GulfUnited Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain
Overseas territoriesSeveral territories of the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and France, for example Gibraltar, Greenland, Aruba and New Caledonia

A visa from a country missing from the list, such as Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey or Russia, does not qualify, so with one of those you still need the e-visa.

Conditions to know

  • In date at the border: a UK visit visa that ran out last month, or a UAE residence visa waiting for renewal, gives you nothing at Tbilisi passport control.
  • Visas and residence permits both work, so a US B1/B2 visa, a US green card, a Schengen visa, a UK visit visa or a Gulf residence card all qualify.
  • No extra Gulf condition for Indians. A tighter rule has applied since 16 May 2025 to 17 nationalities, including Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Nigerians: for them a Gulf visa or residence card counts only when it is multiple-entry and runs for a year or more from the arrival date. Indians are not covered by it, so any Gulf visa or residence permit that is in date will do.
  • The 90 days are counted over a rolling 180-day window. If you visit more than once, the Interior Ministry's online days calculator works out how many days remain.
  • A holiday entry is not permission to study or work. Indian students heading to Georgian medical universities, and anyone taking a job, need a long-stay visa or a residence permit instead.
Carry the originalBring the passport that holds the visa sticker, or the physical residence card, not a phone photo of it. If your visa exists only in digital form, print the approval and ask the embassy in New Delhi whether it will be accepted before you rely on it.

Georgia e-visa for Indians: fee, processing time and validity

Indians without a qualifying visa or permit apply through evisa.gov.ge, the portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There is no appointment, no embassy visit and no need to send original papers, and an approved e-visa carries the same right of entry as a visa sticker. These are the terms the portal showed for Indian passports on 18 October 2026.

ItemIndian passport, October 2026
Visa fee20 USD plus a 2 percent service fee, paid online by Visa or Mastercard
DuVerifyA second, compulsory online check costing 15 USD per applicant, to be done within 24 hours of the first step; the link arrives by email
TotalAbout 35.40 USD, roughly ₹3,400 at October 2026 rates
DecisionTakes no less than 5 working days
EntriesOne
StayUp to 30 days
Validity120 days, the window in which the visa can be used
RefundNone, even if the visa is refused or you never travel
ExtensionNot possible once you are in Georgia

Two numbers matter here. The 120 days are the window for using the visa: you enter and leave inside it. The 30 days are your personal limit once you have crossed the border. Enter fewer than 30 days before the window closes and you get only the days left, because the visa still ends on its final valid day, so pick a start date close to your flight.

Apply only on the government portalThe real address is evisa.gov.ge. Private sites with similar names resell the same form at several times the price, and the Ministry disowns them, so a problem with one of them is yours alone.

How to apply for the Georgian e-visa from India, step by step

  1. Pick India as your passport country
Start a new application on evisa.gov.ge and select India. The portal then displays the fee and the type of visa offered to Indian citizens.
  2. Complete the form in English
Type every detail as it appears in your passport. A middle name goes after your first name in the given-name box. If your passport shows only one name, as many Indian passports do, type it in the surname box. Add your dates, your first address in Georgia and the people travelling with you, so family files are reviewed together.
  3. Upload the data page and a photo
Scan the passport page with your photo and details, and add a colour photo less than six months old. Selfies, phone snapshots and pictures copied from a driving licence or another ID are refused.
  4. Click the email link within an hour
For security, the verification email works for 60 minutes only. If nothing arrives, check the spam folder before you start again.
  5. Pay within five hours
Use a Visa or Mastercard card, which may belong to someone else, such as a parent. An application left unpaid for five hours is cancelled.
  6. Finish DuVerify within 24 hours
A second email brings the DuVerify form and its 15 USD fee. The portal calls it a mandatory part of the process, so do it the same day.
  7. Wait, then print
Allow at least five working days. The e-visa comes by email: print it, and keep the PDF on your phone for check-in and passport control.
Turn on international paymentsCards issued in India often have online international transactions switched off by default. Enable them in your bank app before you pay, or the portal payment may be declined.

Passport and photo rules for the e-visa

  • Your passport has to outlast the e-visa by at least three months, counted from the visa's final day of validity, not from your flight home.
  • It must have been issued within the past ten years, have two or more empty pages, and carry no damage or unofficial notes.
  • Every traveller needs a separate passport and a separate e-visa, babies and children included.
  • Supporting papers must be in English or Georgian.

An error spotted after you submit cannot be corrected: you start a fresh application and pay again. Read the passport number and date of birth back to yourself twice before you press send.

Georgian Embassy in New Delhi: when to apply in person

Georgia's embassy in India stands at 169 Jor Bagh, New Delhi 110003, telephone +91 11 4949 6000. Its consular section works from 09:00 to 18:00, and visits are booked through the Ministry's consular portal, geoconsul.gov.ge. The same mission also serves Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand and the Maldives, which helps Indian citizens who live in those countries.

For a holiday, the e-visa or the third-country route is simpler. Applying at the embassy makes sense if you want a visa sticker in your passport, if you are going to study, work or stay for a long period, or if your case does not fit the standard rules. We found no fees or waiting times on the embassy's website, so ask when you book the appointment.

Once you are in Georgia, the Embassy of India in Tbilisi deals with lost passports and other help for Indian citizens. Save its contact details before you leave home.

Documents Indian travellers need at the Georgian border

Georgian border police may ask any foreign visitor for five things: the passport, something that shows why you are coming, proof of where you will stay, travel and health insurance, and evidence that you can pay for the visit. Airline staff at check-in in India or at a Gulf transfer can ask for the same papers, so keep printed copies in your cabin bag rather than in the hold.

DocumentWhat worksTip
PassportValid for your whole stay, or three months past the e-visa; undamagedSome airlines want six months left, so renew early if yours is close
Visa basisThe printed e-visa, or the passport or card with your US, UK, Schengen, Gulf or other qualifying visa or permitIt has to be in date on your arrival day
Insurance certificateHealth and accident cover of 30,000 GEL or more, Georgia included, every day of the tripAn English PDF plus a printout
Purpose of the tripA tour confirmation, a day-by-day plan, or an invitation from a host in GeorgiaA clear itinerary answers most questions
AccommodationHotel bookings covering the full stay, or a rental agreementNames and addresses that match your itinerary
MoneyA bank statement for the last three months, a letter from your employer, or a signed and dated letter from a sponsorCards plus some US dollars or euros in cash
Return or onward ticketNot on the official list, but airlines and officers often want to see oneHave it on paper and on your phone

Questions at the desk are usually short: how long you are staying, where, and with whom. Give simple answers that match your papers. The officer decides on entry, and even a valid visa does not guarantee it, so tidy paperwork is the best way to keep the conversation brief.

Overstaying is taken seriously. Under penalties in force since 1 October 2025, a visitor who stays past the permitted date faces a fine of 1,000-3,000 GEL plus a possible ban from Georgia of six months to three years.

Compulsory travel insurance for Indians visiting Georgia in 2026

Georgia's Law on Tourism has required foreign tourists to be insured for health and accidents for their whole stay since 1 January 2026. It applies to Indians on the e-visa and on the third-country route alike. The lowest sum insured allowed is 30,000 GEL, which is about $11,500 or ₹11 lakh at October 2026 rates. A policy from an Indian insurer is fine, provided the certificate shows the details Georgia asks for.

What the certificate should show

  • Georgia inside the area of cover, named or clearly included in a worldwide zone.
  • A sum insured of 30,000 GEL or more. Indian policies usually quote cover in dollars, and any plan of $15,000 or higher clears the minimum.
  • Medical treatment and accidents among the insured risks.
  • Exact start and end dates that take in both your arrival day and your departure day.
  • Names of the insurer and the insured person and the premium paid, written in English or Georgian; a PDF is as good as paper.

Airlines are the first checkpoint, and border officers can ask again; the e-visa portal warns that travellers without cover may be refused entry. You cannot buy a policy after landing. The portal links to Georgian insurers that sell the legal minimum online for a few lari a day, but their sub-limits for hospital care and repatriation are low. For skiing in Gudauri, paragliding or trekking, choose a policy that names the activity. Our guide to Georgia's travel insurance rules covers the exemptions and how the checks work in practice.

Ask for a Georgia-specific certificateBefore you fly, ask your insurer for a one-page certificate in English that states the cover in figures, lists Georgia and gives the exact dates. Keep it with your e-visa printout.

Flights from India to Georgia: Delhi, Mumbai and other cities

Tbilisi lies ~3,240 km from Delhi in a straight line. IndiGo opened the first non-stop flights between Delhi and Tbilisi in August 2023 and later added frequencies, but the days and times have shifted more than once, so confirm the current timetable with the airline. With one stop, the fastest link we found is Azerbaijan Airlines through Baku, about 7 hours 50 minutes in total on a November 2026 schedule. Air Arabia through Sharjah, Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways through Kuwait City, and connections in Dubai, Doha and Istanbul serve Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi and other cities, often taking 12 to 15 hours with the layover.

  • From the Gulf, Indian residents on the third-country route fly straight to Tbilisi in about 3 to 3.5 hours from Dubai or Sharjah and under 3 hours from Kuwait.
  • Tbilisi is the practical gateway from India. Kutaisi and Batumi mostly receive European low-cost flights and seasonal services.
  • Georgian time is UTC+4 all year, 1 hour 30 minutes behind Indian Standard Time.
Book the first night from the evening beforeMany connections reach Tbilisi in the early hours. Reserve the first hotel night from the previous evening so the room is ready when you land, and arrange your airport pickup ahead.

Money, SIM cards, food and plugs: practical tips for Indian travellers

Rupees, lari and cards

Georgia's currency is the lari (GEL). At the National Bank of Georgia rate of 17 October 2026, one lari bought about ₹36.5, so 100 GEL comes to roughly ₹3,650. Few exchange booths take rupees, so bring US dollars or euros in cash, or a forex card loaded in dollars, and change money at street exchange offices, which usually beat the airport counters. Visa and Mastercard cards from Indian banks work in cash machines and most shops once international use is enabled; RuPay is accepted far less widely, so carry a second card.

SIM cards and mobile data

Magti, Silknet and Cellfie sell prepaid SIMs in their own shops in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi; take your passport along. A month of generous data costs about 20-40 GEL ($8-15, roughly ₹730-1,460) in 2026, far less than an Indian roaming pack, and Magti has the widest signal in the mountains. An eSIM bought before departure also works on an unlocked phone that supports it.

Vegetarian food

Vegetarians eat well here. Lobio (beans stewed in a clay pot), pkhali (vegetables ground with walnuts and herbs), badrijani (fried aubergine rolled around walnut paste), mchadi corn bread and the many styles of khachapuri cheese bread appear on most menus. On Orthodox fasting days many restaurants offer a lenten menu without meat, eggs or dairy. Tbilisi and Batumi also have plenty of Indian restaurants. Strict vegetarians should ask whether a soup or stew uses meat stock.

Plugs and seasons

  • Sockets are European Type C and F at 220 V. Indian two-pin Type C plugs fit; the round three-pin Type D plugs need an adapter.
  • Snow covers Gudauri and Kazbegi from about December to March, the season many Indian families choose. Tbilisi is hot in July and August, while spring and autumn are mild. Month-by-month details are in our best time to visit guide.

Georgia tour package from India: how a private tour works

Most visitors from India have one or two weeks, want snow or green mountains, and often travel as a family spanning three generations. A private tour suits that: you set the dates to fit your flights, the group is only your party, whatever its size, and a guide in your language travels with you. Children of any age are welcome, so the pace is planned around grandparents and toddlers alike.

A first trip usually combines Tbilisi's old town and sulphur baths, the cathedrals of Mtskheta, the road over the Jvari Pass past Gudauri to Kazbegi and Gergeti Trinity Church, and Kakheti wine towns such as Sighnaghi. With more days, add Kutaisi's caves and canyons and the Black Sea at Batumi. Mention vegetarian, Jain or other food needs while planning, so restaurants and family hosts are chosen with them in mind. Your hotel confirmations then double as the proof of accommodation that the e-visa form and the border ask for.

Private tours run on any date you choose, with no fixed departures. To see what shapes the final quote, read our guide to private tour prices.

Frequently asked questions

Is there visa on arrival in Georgia for Indians?

No. Indian citizens need a visa before they reach the border unless they qualify through a current visa or residence card issued by an approved country such as the US, the UK, a Schengen state or a Gulf state. The e-visa can be arranged online from India, usually within one to two weeks.

Can Indians with a US visa visit Georgia without a visa?

Yes. With a valid US visa or green card, an Indian citizen needs no Georgian visa and may remain for as long as 90 days out of every 180. The US document must be unexpired when you land, and the compulsory insurance applies as well.

Can Indian residents of the UAE travel to Georgia without a visa?

Yes. An Indian citizen with a valid UAE residence visa, or one from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman or Bahrain, can come in without a Georgian visa, again for a maximum of 90 days in each 180. The stricter multiple-entry rule for Gulf permits covers 17 other nationalities, not Indians.

How much is the Georgia e-visa fee for Indians?

The visa costs 20 US dollars plus a 2 percent service fee, and the separate DuVerify check adds 15 dollars, about 35.40 dollars or ₹3,400 in total in October 2026. Both are paid online by card and are not refunded if the visa is refused.

How long does the Georgian e-visa take for Indian citizens?

The portal says to expect at least five working days before an answer. Apply two to three weeks before your flight, and earlier around Diwali, Christmas and the summer school holidays, when many Indian families travel.

Is a Schengen visa enough for an Indian to enter Georgia?

Yes, as long as it has not expired on the day you enter. Visas and residence permits from every EU and Schengen state, as well as the UK, Switzerland and Norway, allow 90 days in Georgia per 180-day window.

How long can Indians stay in Georgia?

Up to 30 days on the e-visa, which allows one entry within 120 days, or as long as 90 days per 180-day window on a qualifying third-country visa or permit. The e-visa cannot be extended inside Georgia, and an overstay is fined between 1,000 and 3,000 GEL.

Do children need their own Georgian e-visa?

Yes. Whatever their age, every family member applies separately, each with their own passport. List family members as companions in every application so the portal reviews them together.
